Since 1869 Bolton Deaf Society has worked hard to support deaf, deafened, and hard of hearing children, young people, and adults in the borough of Bolton and surrounding areas. Bolton Deaf Society is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, our charity registration is 1191838. We manage Bolton Deaf Society community centre which is in the town centre of Bolton. Alongside our centre-based work we also deliver borough wide outreach activities with individual deaf families and across Bolton’s wider D/deaf community.
Collectively these things provide accessible information and advocacy, a BSL interpreter booking service, employment and enterprise mentoring, and social and leisure opportunities for D/deaf adults, D/deaf young people, and D/deaf children. In addition, we also provide D/deaf awareness and British Sign Language (BSL) training for colleagues, groups, and employers across the voluntary, public, and commercial sectors.
We continue to invest in forming and nurturing local and regional partnerships. Examples of existing partnerships include NHS Integrated Care (Bolton), Royal Bolton Hospital (Audiology), CAB, and the Thomasson Memorial School in Bolton (day school for D/deaf children).
It is a combination of all these things that result in positive life changing outcomes for the children and adults that we support, including reducing loneliness and isolation, improving wellbeing, and helping D/deaf individuals young and old strengthen their resilience and achieve their full potential.
