Delivering mentoring, one to one support and diversionary activities to empower young people and enable them to reach their potential by making positive choices and increasing their training and employment prospects.

Youth Against Violence

Partners will be engaging with young people aged between 12-17 years

Bolton Together has been awarded Bolton Council’s ‘Standing Together’ Funding from Bolton CVS to deliver our Youth Against Violence Project. Our three partners, Urban Outreach, The Flowhesion Foundation and BSCA will be delivering mentoring, one-to-one support and diversionary activities to empower young people and enable them to reach their potential by making positive choices and increasing their training and employment prospects. Young people are at the heart of this delivery and will shape how it is delivered. We will be capturing their views and experiences.

The Flowhesion Foundation Support

What is it?

This programme runs until 30/06/2026.

Our bilingual youth workers will be delivering 1-1 intensive mentoring support to 20 young people from the Halliwell area of Bolton who are at risk of exploitation or vulnerability. We will also be working with young people who are involved with the criminal justice system, such as the Youth Offending Team and the Police. Our youth workers will create Personal Development Plans with them, workshops and diversionary activities on a weekly basis within the Flowhesion ecosystem in Bolton.

In addition, we will be engaging with a further 80 young people who are at-risk of exploitation so that they can take part in our diversionary activities.

When is it?
1-1 Mentoring Offer

The 1-1 mentoring sessions have a total of 20 spaces available. Young people must reside within the Halliwell area of Bolton.

We would advise you to contact us as soon as possible as these places are quickly being taken up. Our youth workers are flexible as they take into consideration school times and other commitments young people may have.

The sessions are usually undertaken on weekdays in the early evenings or on weekends in the early mornings. Our diversionary activities include: a range of sports, social action or development activities.

Young people must commit themselves to 1 hour per week of mentoring, 1 hour per week of a sports activity and 1.5 hours per week of a social action or development activity. This will be agreed with the young person, youth worker, parents and referring organisation.

Diversionary Activities

We have 80 spaces available for young people from the Halliwell area of Bolton who are at risk of exploitation or vulnerability. We will offer them free places on a range of sports activities, workshops and or development and social action activities. The commitment here is 2.5 hours per week.

Suitability of a Referral

Our programme will triangulate any referrals with the relevant statutory organisation they are involved in, i.e. Youth Offending Team, Police, Substance Misuse service, etc. This is so that we understand the risks associated with the young person and that staff or other participants in activities are not exposed to harm. It is therefore important that if you wish to refer a young person to our offer, you ensure that their relevant supervisor, caseworker at Youth Offending Team, Police, and substance misuse service is aware. It is also important that the young person’s parents are aware of the referral. We involve parents in the first meeting with the young person and subsequent meetings so they are fully aware of our offer and actions.

If you wish to discuss the suitability of a referral, kindly speak to Julie.
